Drinking a lot of fluids during your meals is harmful in that it could cause digestive problems. The amount of fluid you intake causes your stomach acids and digestive enzymes to become diluted making it hard for your system to break down food. The best method is to drink half hour before you eat and one hour after you eat. The introduction of fluids at this point will help with the absorption of nutrients and with moving bowels.[1]
Chew properly, avoid cold drinks, keep to warm drinks or hot teas around meals. Avoid more than 4 ounces of fluid during your meals.
