Do you have pain when you first put your heel down on the floor in the morning? You might have a heel spur or plantar fasciitis. It is caused when the plantar fascia (the dense strip of tissue that helps support the arch of the foot) undergoes a lot of force from the weight of the body. Over time, this causes stress and tears on the plantar fascia where it attaches to the heel bone. When the body tries to repair itself it will try to attach the fascia to the heel bone, which could cause bone spurs.[1]
If this pain comes daily for at least a week without improvement, you need to see your foot doctor. Aggressive early stretching and bracing can save you from long invasive treatments of this problem.
