While it is your doctor’s job to care for your health, it is your job to be your own health advocate. That is why, when prescribed medications, it is so important to be proactive and ask follow-up questions. Ask your doctor questions like: why am I getting this medicine, what are
the risks, is there a natural approach that could work just as well? You should also inquire: will this medicine interfere with anything else I am taking, how does it work inside my body, and what is the best way to take this medicine?[1]
If a question pops-up after you have already left the office, remember that your pharmacist can provide answers too. Also, if you ever think about stopping your prescribed meds, be sure to reach out to your doctor for his/her advice and guidance first.
