Avoid Non-Stick Cookware

frying panWhile you might enjoy the easy clean-up and the fact that you can use less oil when cooking, non-stick cookware has some dangerous risks. When turned up on high heat, Teflon pots and pans release vapors of toxic perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), potentially contaminating your air and food. Recent studies are also pointing to a connection between these toxins and heart problems. Americans with the highest traces of Teflon chemicals have two times the chance of suffering from a heart attack, stroke or heart disease.[1]

For a natural and lasting cookware option, try cast-iron pots and pans. Stainless steel cookware is another option that can safely withstand high heat. Look out for “green” non-stick cookware too, which promises to be just as effective as your other non-stick pans minus the harmful PFCs.
