Breathing is an automatic function for our body and different breathing techniques have been proven to have healing benefits. Controlled breathing to promote relaxation has helped manage numerous conditions such as: anxiety, asthma, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, high blood pressure, insomnia, panic attacks, eczema, and stress. When you get stressed your breathing becomes shallow and your body takes in too much carbon dioxide and not enough oxygen, causing anxiety. [1]
A simple breathing technique to reduce stress is to breathe in deeply to the count of 6, hold your breath for a moment and listen to the sounds in your environment, then exhale to the count of 6.
