Cold Therapy for Stress and Disease

Showers are great for relaxing and soothing aching muscles, but have you ever thought about getting in the shower before it warms up? Cold therapy, or cryotherapy, offers many health benefits including fighting off stress and disease. When your body is exposed to cold water the water acts as a natural stimulus, which increases a healthy stress in the body. This exposure lowers uric acid levels, which is associated with people who have high blood pressure, kidney disease, and suffer from obesity. It also increases glutathione, which is your body’s best antioxidant that keeps other antioxidants running strong.[1]

Next time you’re in the shower, take a moment at the end and turn the water to cold. It might seem difficult at first, but it’s a great health boost to your body!
