According to the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, 40 percent of calories in children’s diets are so-called “empty calories,” that do not provide any nutritional value. A large percentage of these empty calories come from sugar-sweetened drinks, such as fruit juice and soda as well as cookies, pizza, and yeast bread.[1]
Because of excessive weight gain associated with high consumption of sugary drinks, they should be avoided by your children at all costs. Keep your children away from those drinks and foods of empty calories. Replace them with spring water and vegetables.
