If you are pregnant, or trying to get pregnant, it might be a great idea to start adding some probiotic foods to your diet. The fermented foods, found in a probiotic diet, is rich with beneficial miroflora (good bacteria) that helps fight against infections. Besides the microflora giving the mother a healthy vagina for the baby to pass through, the baby will also be “inoculated with helpful bacteria and yeast” that helps boost his/her own immune system. Since newborns are susceptible to infections, this is a great way the mother can help boost the baby’s immune system early on.[1]
Start your pregnancy off right with some great fermented and probiotic foods you can incorporate into your diet! Some examples are: yogurt, kefir, miso, and tempeh.
