Weight gain and postural changes during pregnancy can lead to un-comfortable problems such as foot and leg fatigue, over-pronation and edema. Over-pronation or flat foot is caused when the feet roll inward by the weight gain. Edema, or swelling, occurs because of the extra volume of blood circulating through the body. Be on the look out if the swelling isn’t symmetrical. This could be a sign of a vascular problem and a doctor should be informed immediately.[1]
Proper shoes that are flexible to allow for changes in foot size and proper arch support should be a priority. In addition, keep hydrated, keep your feet elevated, wear seamless socks to allow for circulation, and stretch often.
