Going organic is great, but be careful, because not all labels mean “organic.” According to the USDA, the “organic” label must meet the following criteria: produced without harmful pesticides, fertilizers that contain synthetic ingredients, and without ionizing radiation. For meat: no growth hormones or antibiotics are used on the animal. Now, in contrast, the label “natural” has only the regulation in reference to meat: does not contain artificial ingredients or added color and has minimal processing.[1]
Watch out when you buy “organic.” Slapping labels on products to claim that they are “all-natural” can be used as a marketing tool because of the “organic” demand. Read your labels and purchase organic foods carefully.
