The method in which you handle raw poultry should not be taken lightly. The more careful you are, the smaller the chances are of bacteria spreading. Here are some tips when handling raw poultry: always wash your hands and anything that comes in contact with the raw poultry with warm and soapy water. When storing in the freezer: take it out of it’s packaging, rinse, dry and package in a freezer bag. Do NOT re-freeze thawed poultry because you are just freezing all the new bacteria into the poultry. Always rinse your poultry and pat it dry with a paper towel before you prepare. [1]
Choose surfaces like plastic or glass to prepare your raw poultry. They are easier to clean and they won’t soak up any bacteria like a wood cutting board does.
