How to Prevent Neuromas

A neuroma is an inflammation and thickening of the nerve tissue that appears between the third and fourth toes. It is usually caused by wearing tight shoes that put pressure on the nerves in the ball of your foot or by just having a tendency to roll your feet inward when you walk. It can feel as if you have a pebble in your shoe and the pain doesn’t start right away, which is why people tend to ignore it. One simple way to avoid getting neuromas is to make sure your shoes are wide enough and if ladies insist on wearing heels, go for platform or wedge heels that give better support.[1]

Simple solutions to neuromas involve orthotics and over-the-counter insole pads that will cushion the ball of your foot.
