How to Protect Your Eyes from Sun Damage

We all know that our skin needs sunscreen to help protect it from UV rays, but did you ever think that your eyes need protection too? No matter the health of your eyes, research has shown that going out on a sunny day between 10am and 4pm without protection can cause damage to your eyes. Too much sun can cause serious issues, such as cataracts, macular degeneration, skin cancer on the eyelids, abnormal growths, and even sunburn on the eyes. The best protection for your eyes is sunglasses, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, and even goggles for days in the water.

Be smart about your sunglasses! They should filter out at least 98 percent of UV rays and should be brown, gray, or green and big enough to protect all areas.[1]
