Leafy Folic Acid

Folic acid (vitamin B9) is known to be essential for pregnant women to prevent birth defects of a child.  In addition, folic acid is necessary to synthesize and repair DNA, produce healthy red blood cells and prevent anemia. [1] The word folic acid comes from the Latin word “folium” which actually means “leaf”.

Eat folic acid rich foods today, such as leafy green vegetables (spinach, asparagus, turnip greens), legumes (beans, peas, lentils), baker’s yeast, sunflower seeds and fruits (oranges, pineapples, cantaloupe, honey dew and grapefruit).
