A Japanese proverb says, “If you only eat to 70% of stomach’s capacity, you won’t need a doctor.” Overeating is the primary cause of heartburn. [1] Heartburn—also known as acid reflux—occurs when stomach acid flows back up into the esophagus. Because the esophagus has no protective lining, the acid can cause pain, coughing, and asthma-like symptoms. If you feel too stuffed and sleepy after your meal, you overate.
Look down at your plate. If the amount of food on your plate is bigger than your two palms, you are overeating. Portion control is essential to your health.
