Painful Blisters

A blister is an accumulation of fluid just underneath the top layer of skin. Excessive friction, pressure, and moisture on the skin cause fluid to build up. [1]  Avoidance is the key. Proper fitting socks and shoes are the most important factor. Protective padding is helpful to prevent recurrence of blisters.

If you have a blister, pop it with aseptic needle in the edge of the blister (not in the center) and apply antibiotic ointment and dressing. To avoid infection, do not take the cover off the blister until it is healed.
