Anytime we were young and we got upset, our moms would constantly tell us to breathe and calm down. As we grow older, tension and stress seem to take over our minds and bodies. The same remedy is true now as it was when we were younger, “Breathe and calm down.” Deep breathing releases tension and clears your mind. If you become a shallow breather, which is common for adults, you will take in less oxygen and induce more stress on your body. Stress has a very negative effect on your body and by practicing deep breathing you will melt that stress away![1]
Sit up straight, rest your hands over your stomach, slowly breathe in through your nose, hold for three to five counts, and slowly breathe out your nose. Do it again until you feel the tension melt away.
