Too Much Sodium and Weak Bones

Salt, or sodium chloride, is actually a substance our bodies need. Salt helps transmit nerve impulses, contract muscles, like the heart; and it helps carry nutrients throughout our bodies. Problems arise when we take in too much salt, which is easily done with bad eating habits. One big issue is that too much salt can actually weaken your bones, also known as osteoporosis. It can reduce bone density and increase the amount of calcium in your urine. This reduction in calcium can lead to broken or fractured bones later in life.[1]

Be careful when adding salt to your cooking! Adding herbs and spices instead will give your meal a great flavor without all the added salt.
