We all know that ordering a salad from a restaurant is not necessarily the healthiest choice, but what about the salad you make for yourself? Here are a few items that turn your salad from healthy to a high fat leafy meal: processed salad dressing, bacon bits, cheese, croutons, ham, fried or crispy meats, iceberg lettuce, and flavored nuts. Many of these items are processed and high in fat, calories and salt. Iceberg lettuce makes the list because it has barely any nutrient value making it neither healthy nor unhealthy.
For healthier alternatives, try items like raw nuts and vegetables for crunch, grilled meats, natural cheeses like parmesan, red or green leaf lettuce, and homemade dressing.
