Do you stretch your arches before your day starts? Or how about before you exercise? You should! Your feet work hard for you and the arches of your feet use a thick band of tissue, the plantar fascia, to absorb the shock from everyday activities. If the plantar fascia becomes tight, it causes pain from the heel to your toes. Here’s a great stretch to keep the arch flexible: Sit on the floor with bare feet and your legs stretched out and slightly apart. Take a towel and wrap it around the sole of the foot and pull back until you feel a stretch in your arch. Hold for 20-30 seconds, release, and switch feet.[1]
Stretch your arches in the morning when you get out of bed, but be gentle as the plantar fascia tightens overnight and you don’t want to overstretch.
