Why You Should Stretch Your Back

Stretching is great for the soft tissues surrounding your spine. The ligaments, muscles, and tendons surrounding your spine were designed to move. Keeping them stiff and still can actually make back pain worse. Make an effort to stretch your back in the morning and at night in positions that are comfortable for you. One easy back stretch is to lie on your back, bend your knees, and pull them into your upper chest while lifting your shoulders and back off of the floor.*

When stretching, wear comfortable clothes that make it easy for your body to move. Stretch on clean, flat, and stable surfaces, and hold stretches for 20-30 seconds to allow your tissues the time they need to loosen up.
